Mariam’s mission is to provide others with the prenatal, labor, and birth support that everyone deserves. A powerful, confident, and comforting birth experience is something this world should strive to provide to all who need it. With Mariam by your side, you can be assured that you will feel cared for, supported, and confident as you embark on your remarkable journey.
As the founder of Designated Doula, Mariam Lam brings passion and devotion to a service that calls her to serve others. With over five years of experience and involvement in nonprofit organizations, Mariam has created Designated Doula to provide full-time support to the local community.
Her commitment to help others through the journey of pregnancy and childbirth began as a Birth Partners volunteer at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. While balancing parenthood, a full-time job as a research specialist at UNC, and volunteering as a doula, Mariam worked to earn her Birth Doula Certification through DONA International. This allowed her the opportunity to enter the world of professional doulas as a way to better serve others.
In addition to being a DONA Certified Birth Doula (CD(DONA)), Mariam is a Certified Childbirth Educator (LCCE) through Lamaze International. She is also a member of the North Carolina Perinatal Association: A Coalition for Healthy Mothers and Healthy Babies.
Mariam resides in Durham, North Carolina. In her spare time, she enjoys being near friends and family, jogging along the Tobacco Trail, crocheting, and cooking with her son.
